This week’s episode covers language for describing trends. It’s an incredibly practical topic for university students writing a dissertation/thesis paper or for IELTS exam students because they need this language to describe their research results and graphs respectively. Additionally, professionals can find this useful if they deal with numbers/ prices/ figures or statistics in their work. Comparing statistics and talking about trends in everyday life is also another situation, that’s quite common, where this language would be used.
Vocabulary
The language covered is: soar, surge, gain, leap, slump, plummet, plunge, tumble, slightly, gradually, steadily, sharply, dramatically, substantially, to rally as well as increase/decrease, go up/down, fall/rise
